Liz Kelly
Western Ward Councillor
Porirua City
2004 - Current
As a mother and grandmother I support a family friendly City that offers our young people opportunity and a promising future with meaningful employment.
Proudly born and raised in Porirua, I am passionate about our City and the health and well being of our people.
What maybe classed these days as "old fashion values" form the core principles of my political views, working hard and respect for your elders, caring for each other and looking after our environment for future generations. I learnt these principles by the example of my mother at the feet of my Kaumatua.
I believe my generation was the last to enjoy Porirua Harbour as a food basket and playground. That's only fifty odd years ago. Our city has been built with its back to the harbour and we need to turn that around. Porirua Harbour is our jewel and I am fervent about the restoration and development of it.
Significant issues for Porirua will be maintaining and further improving infrastructure assets.
Council plans for the future need to be affordable. Currently 93% of Councils income is derived from rates and Council fees. We need to be innovative to reduce this dependency on rates by promoting shared services across the region, investigating private-public partnerships and looking for commercial opportunities while retaining the uniqueness of Porirua.
With a business background, a commonsense approach and community social development experience I am well qualified and committed to serve you and lead our City.
Please support me as your Mayor by putting no.1 beside my name.
